Kurukuru Koma

GuideRank 1

The Spinning Top. A fat wooden festival top with two painted dots for eyes that smear into a ring when it spins. Four lantern posts stand round the pit. A pale line follows you across the floor, turns red, and the top shoots down it and runs on past where you stood. Make it miss you into a post.

Item level 10: the island’s green (uncommon) gear for level 10

That is the gear this fight was tuned for. More gear makes it easier, and good play can win below it. How item level works here.

What it does

Rev Up Whine

At the start of every spin it hops onto its point and spins up, leaning toward you.

Look for a post.

Lit Line Aim

A pale butter line runs from the top through your feet and swings with you. It is not red and does nothing. It ends where the dash will end: past you, at the rim or at a post. A post past you on the line lights mint, “lined up”. A post before you only gets a white tick.

Walk to swing the line so a post stands close behind you. Stop walking for its last moment: the lock reads where you are.

Spin Dash Leg

The line locks red and fills. Then the top shoots down it, runs on past your spot and stops where the red ends. A hit is a hard blow, stops your healing for a while and tosses you out of the lane.

Step sideways out of the red. With a post behind you, it runs on into the post.

Post Crash Dizzy

A dash that misses you and meets a post behind you ends in a crash: the top squashes against the post, tips over and lies dizzy with stars. It takes extra damage while it lies there. The post cracks, and at its second hit it falls into the sea.

Everything you have, now: this is the burst window.

Post Bumper Boing

A post in front of you is only a bumper. The top boings off it and no crash follows.

Hiding behind a post buys you one leg, never a crash.

Rim Bounce Clang

A dash that reaches the rim clangs off it and rebounds a little. The next leg aims from there.

Fight away from the rim to keep it near you.

Wobble Rest Window

A spin with no crash ends with the top wobbling in a small circle. It takes a little extra damage for a moment.

Hit it.

Lanterns Up Again

Later in the fight every post pops back up through a trapdoor with its lantern relit, ready for more crashes.

A post that comes up under you nudges you aside.

Two Lines Ahead

In the middle of the fight, while a red fills, the next leg’s lit line already shows from where this one will stop and swings with you.

Step out of the red onto the next bait spot.

Little Top Trail

In the last stretch a little top spins out of its stem and runs every lane a moment behind it, on a narrower red stripe inside the lane. A hit is a hard blow. If the big top crashes, the little one bonks into its back and is dizzy too.

Break the little top or keep clear of its trail. Once you are out of a lane, do not step back in at once.

Top Speed Spin

If the fight runs long, sparks stream off its ring, then it spins white-hot, the gaps between moves halve and every blow hits far harder.

The red lanes are no faster. Keep baiting: a crash is still the way to finish.

How to beat it

  1. Make it miss you: Stand with a post close behind you, wait for the red, and step sideways. It runs on into the post.
  2. Walk to aim, then stop: While the pale line swings you steer it; for its last moment stand still so it locks where you want it.
  3. Bumper or crash: A post in front of you only bounces it. The post must be past you on the line, and the line shows it in mint.
  4. Burn the dizzy: Hold your biggest blows for a crash. A wobble is a smaller window, there for casters when nothing crashed.
  5. Change posts: Each post takes two crashes, so move on to another after two. They all come back later in the fight.
  6. Mind the rim: A dash that reaches the rim only bounces. Pull the fight toward the middle of the pit.
  7. Flawless: No leg and no little-top stripe touches you.
